Weird things

Listicles are so wonderful. You grab a few factoids from an Internet search and put numbers on them and voilà, you've got an article. Beats working for a living.

A site called, appropriately enough, The Things has posed a listicle of 10 weird rules that game show contestants have to follow. Most of the rules are pretty obvious and will not come as a staggering surprise to readers of this blog. For instance, you should dress up in strange costumes for Let's Make a Deal and shout "good answer" for your teammates' responses on Family Feud. No kidding.

A couple of the items are a little more arcane. Contestants don't get their winnings unless their episodes actually air on TV. This usually isn't a problem because game shows don't often tape eps that end up in the trash. But once in a while episodes do go unaired for one reason of another (like an early cancellation) so the winnings go unclaimed. The listicle says this practice only originated in recent decades, but it's been a fact of game show production for a while now.

And in the truly obvious department, the kids on Legends of the Hidden Temple couldn't ask Olmec any questions. Well, yeah, Dee Bradley Baker was reading from a script as he voiced the Great Stone Face. So the kids wouldn't have gotten any answers, anyway.
