So they're imitating the idea. Or at least one of the networks is trying the sincerest form of flattery. CBS will run three more prime time specials of The Price is Right in the spring. This idea had already been broached when the Eye Network (warning, Variety-speak) put on a couple of prime time TPiR shows last month. But ABC's runaway ratings with Alex and friends may have accelerated the timetable.
While those December specials didn't garner the blowout ratings that Jeopardy has produced for ABC, they still performed pretty well in the low-rated Christmas week. And speaking of imitation, ABC may be thinking about imitating itself. An ABC honcho comments...
Whether it's something with Jeopardy or not, certainly I would argue these three guys [James Holzhauer, Ken Jennings and Brad Rutter for those who haven't heard] are the biggest stars in prime time right now. Is there a different game? I don't know.
I do know that big ratings produce imitations. Enjoy the prime time specials, TPiR fans.
