The only real question is why ABC doesn't use some of these shows in the colder, higher-viewing months. The network is already doing good business in the summer with them. The linked story runs through the good summertime ratings news for ABC. Why not spread the joy to other seasons?
ABC is running the Jeopardy clash of the titans - Ken Jennings, Brad Rutter and James Holzhauer - in January. So it's not like there's a wall of resistance at the network to game shows in other times of the year besides summer. Fun and games can work in winter, too.
At least this is a bit of good news for Press Your Luck's Elizabeth Banks. The flop of her Charlie's Angels flick has generated a lot of grumpiness. But ABC still likes her.
