The show seems prone to such rules conniptions. Or maybe it's just Wheel's prominence in the genre that draws more attention to the disputes. On the November 21 episode a contestant named Kristen Shaw solved the crossword puzzle in the screenshot. Only she added "and" to the solution and lost ten grand in cash and goodies.
The crossword puzzles on Wheel are almost designed for this flub. That's why Pat Sajak warns the solving contestant every time not to add any more words than the four on the board. As you might expect, a lot of viewers took to Twitter to dump on the show for enforcing the nitpicking rule.
Some other posters disagreed, especially because contestants get Pat's warning immediately before an attempted solve. I like the crossword puzzles as a pleasant variation from the same old, same old. But if this flub happens a few more times, the crosswords may meet their demise on the show.
