TPiR stuff

That show with all the pricing games hit a couple of milestones on Thursday. One of them was impressive. The other was a little offbeat.

The impressive record was The Price is Right's 9,000th episode since the current incarnation began in 1972. Throw in the old Bill Cullen B&W version, and TPiR is easily over ten grand in eps (not dollars). The expense structure of our little genre allows a show to pile up so many eps over so many years. Don't look for any prime time drama or sitcom to get within light-years of that number.

The offbeat mark was superfan Rosendo Alvarez's 180th episode in the studio audience. Of course, he came on down to contestant's row and eventually walked away with a pile of loot and a BRAND NEW CAR. Life does work out nicely sometimes, at least on game shows.

There's one other current longevity mark worth considering. Drew Carey is working his 13th season as Bob's Successor. He followed a tough act, and he's still here.
