Dozens of junior hockey hopefuls from across the prairies are participating in the camp, hoping to be identified for next year's Humboldt Broncos team.
The three-day camp is being held at Saskatoon's Agri-Place Arena and although the media was not invited to attend, parents of players have sent me info and images of Babcock.
The Leafs coach - who hails from Saskatoon and has an off-season home at Emma Lake, SK - has been very closely-connected to the Broncos. He's been personally helping counsel some of the families affected by the tragedy.
Babcock has also spoken at U of S convocation over the past few years.
16 players and staff of the Humboldt Broncos were killed in the worst bus crash in North American sports history on April 6. Just two weeks ago, the Broncos announced they will indeed ice a team this September.
However the club is still without a Head Coach or General Manager, as Darcy Haugan was one of those who lost his life. Clearly that's why Babcock offered his services this weekend.
Meanwhile the NHL announced on Friday that Darcy Haugan has been named one of three finalists for this year's Willie O'Ree Award as a community hero.
