Today on GSC

On a quiet Sunday morning I checked both versions of GSN's Game Show Central.

The Roku Channel edition was running Emogenius, the emoji epic hosted by Hunter March, grandson of Hal March from the ill-fated $64,000 Question. This show featured an intriguing premise but it was too hard for its own good. Identifying those pesky emojis was a nasty task for the sharpest contestant.

On Pluto TV GSC was serving the Bill Engvall version of Lingo. I must be the only guy on the game show Interwebs who liked this rewind of the five-letter fest. Engvall was an alert and funny host, and the writing was clever and quirky. But just about everyone else dumped on the show because the original Chuck Woolery version cast such a long shadow. Sometimes it's tough to fight the older-is-better trend on the Internet.

It seems a little weird for GSN to run two separate versions of Game Show Central, but at least it offers a choice from the network's vast library of originals. I have no idea how GSC is performing on the platforms because they don't show viewer numbers. I doubt that huge throngs are tuning in, but the library of past goodies is proving of some use to GSN.
