Nice tribute

ABC has released a tribute to Millionaire legend Regis Philbin. Current host Jimmy Kimmel narrates the video.

Regis paid a visit to the set of the Millionaire reboot, and the Alphabet Net (thank you, Variety) uses some of that footage in the tribute. There's also a look back at Regis on the original U.S. version. Jimmy Kimmel offers kind words about his predecessor, who was the perfect Everyman host for the return of big-money game shows to broadcast prime time.

It's hard to call Millionaire Regis' signature show. There's always that talker with Kathie Lee and Kelly. But in these (game show) parts, we'll remember him for hearing the final answers.

The new version of Millionaire has done good business for ABC. It's drawn six million viewers for several eps, which is a nice number for the current (and shrunken) broadcasters. Of course, back in the day Regis could get over 35 million viewers for the money tree epic. Those were far better times for network TV. Now the media landscape is a fractured jumble, and the old NBC-CBS-ABC triopoly has vanished into distant memory.
