Another day, another list

Yahoo Life, which sounds like a description of my own existence, adds to listicle lore with "the 28 most popular game show hosts through the years." It's a mostly okay list, though the omission of Bill Cullen is a howler that would bring outrage from the oldies boards (and me), if anybody really cared about these throwaway listicles.

The list is based on a "then and now" approach that pairs hosts from the past with current hosts of the reboots of their signature shows. Dick Clark and Michael Strahan make a duo, for instance. They both hosted Pyramid, if you didn't know. This may be why Bill Cullen didn't make the cut, though they could have snuck him in as the original host of The Price is Right. They do make room for Bob Barker and Drew Carey, after all.

The oddest selection is Jay Leno. They pair him with Groucho Marx for You Bet Your Life. Except Jay's version won't see the light of Fox syndication for another year. No matter, he's already one of the most popular game show hosts ever. Yahoo Life wouldn't lie, would they?

Jack Barry makes the list as part of a Joker's Wild duo with Snoop Dogg (a.k.a. Calvin Broadus). They're honest enough to note Mr. Barry's involvement in that unpleasant rumpus from the 1950s.
