In November 2019, Toyota showed the latest-generation Mirai with the unveiling of a striking ‘concept’ that was in fact a pre-production prototype. We now have a clear idea of when the car will arrive.
Japanese publication Best Car Web understands the car will be officially unveiled in production guise in October or November before hitting the local market in early 2021. While it remains unclear which international markets the new Mirai will be available in, it is claimed it will start at roughly 8 million yen (~$74,500).
Very few changes are expected to be made for the road-going model compared to the pre-production prototype of last year’s Tokyo Motor Show. Consequently, the hydrogen fuel-cell vehicle will be significantly longer, wider, and lower than the outgoing model, at 195.8 inches (4,973 mm), 74.2 inches (1,885 mm), and 57.8 inches (1,468 mm), respectively. It will also boast a generous wheelbase of 114.9 inches (2,918 mm).

The outgoing Toyota Mirai has long been the ugly duckling of the automaker’s range but that’s no longer the case with the new model. In fact, the sleek overall looks are more akin to a luxurious sedan from Lexus. If shoppers were put off buying the previous Mirai due to its looks, they should have no such issues with this new one.
The drastic modifications continue in the cabin where there is an 8-inch digital instrument cluster, a 12.3-inch infotainment system and an attracting dashboard design. There are also a host of bronze accents, a wireless smartphone charger, and a 14-speaker JBL audio system. Toyota has yet to announce technical specifications for the 2021 Mirai.
