Buzzr stuff

It dawned on me that I hadn't written any new posts about Buzzr lately.

To be fair, there hasn't been much to write about. By and large, our little oldies diginet has been rerunning the same old eps of the same old shows for weeks now. A while back Fremantle posted a note that the diginet would go quiet because of the virus. Actually, I think it's because of the bad economy that's resulted from the severe lockdowns.

When advertising revenue dries up, a diginet that appeals to a tiny sub-niche (oldies freaks) of an already relatively small niche (game show fans) is an obvious place to cut back. Buzzr passed its fifth anniversary this month with hardly any fanfare.

But there are a few new items, according to visitor posts on the the diginet's Facebook page. Buzzr may have converted a handful of new eps of a couple of its shows for July. Nothing major but at least it's a sign that Fremantle is spending a few dollars on the diginet. Buzzr has also been running promos for a blooper fest over the Fourth of July weekend.

The same guy who noted the "new" eps also offered an ingenious theory on Buzzr's finances...

Since they can't transfer anything right now, maybe they are getting a little bit of profit, that could turn into more new stuff when they are able to start again? Or (Wishful thinking) Maybe even a budget to negotiate with Hasbro or lease something from somewhere else?

Well, that's one way to look at the situation. My guess is that the general cutback in ad spending means that Buzzr is scraping by even more narrowly than before. But what do I know? Fremantle doesn't let me look at the books.

Oh, another thing. One of the shows I occasionally watch on Buzzr is Super Password. I've noticed audio and video issues with the eps. Another poster commented on the same problem...

Please fix the sound. It sounds like Bert Convy and the contestants/celebrities are in a tunnel. Funny because the audience sound is fine.

Super Password is not a particularly old show by Buzzr's hoary standards. So maybe the tapes got left out in the rain once. Or something.
