Sports substitute

With the virus locking down every sport on the planet, some people are trying to get their root-root-root kicks elsewhere. A frustrated fan has posted a video of her family cheering for the contestants on Common Knowledge. Of course, GSN couldn't resist linking to the video on their Facebook page.

Gotta admit, these people take Joey Fatone's offbeat quizzer seriously. There stand and yell and whoop it up when somebody gets an answer right. I like Common Knowledge myself, but I never go crazy when a contestant nails one of the goofy questions. Sadly, I'm just too inhibited. GSN has started a promo campaign around the idea of the network as a sports substitute.

Now that I think about it, game shows are competition, after all. And thanks to the long-ago rigging scandals, we can be pretty sure that the competition is on the up-and-up. I'm not sure I want GSN bringing in cheerleaders and mascots, but I can understand why the network is taking advantage of the sports shutdown. Root, root, root for the home team.
