Bright idea

In the sidebar today I posted a blurb from GSN about their online version of Catch 21. Which got me thinking - dangerous, I know - that Buzzr could try something similar with their retro game shows.

After all, Buzzr seems to be going big on an online strategy as opposed to expanding their reach in linear TV. But pretty much all you can do on the Buzzr web site is watch the live feed and check the schedule. Why not toss is a few online games based on shows like Card Sharks, Press Your Luck or Classic Concentration? Already there's a web site with an admittedly amateurish version of Card Sharks.

I know Buzzr is a bare-bones operation and Fremantle can't spend a ton on the diginet. So I don't expect them to fund an expensive in-house online gaming operation. But maybe they could make a deal with GSN's online unit for spiffy play-along games with images of Peter Tomarken and Jim Perry and the rest of the Buzzr crew. It would be one way of driving traffic to the web site and possibly getting people interested in the diginet's lineup.

Or Fremantle might just be content with using Buzzr as an oldies outlet for for a small niche of the game show audience. They may regard any revenue from Buzzr as found money, and they might think the diginet isn't worth much bother.
