Jimmy tapes Millionaire

After ABC hit the ratings jackpot with the Jeopardy G.O.A.T. tournament, the Alphabet Net will bring another storied format to prime time in April. Jimmy Kimmel will host the rebooted Who Wants to Be a Millionaire with various celeb contestants. If you want to be in the studio audience and can make it to Culver City, CA, then there are tickets for you.

The linked web page says the tapings happen March 13-15. There's also a note on gameplay: the celeb players "will be allowed to invite a guest (such as a relative or expert) in the hot seat to help them answer questions." I don't know if the friendly helpers will be available for all the questions on the money tree or just for a few questions or just for one. Sadly, I can't make to Culver City to see how the friendly helpers work into the format.

If his excellent work on the long-ago Win Ben Stein's Money is any indication, Jimmy should do just fine as the host. In fact, his main temptation may be to yuk it up too much with the celebs. Millionaire should play out as a fairly serious quizzer, though a little humor never hurts.

One small point. The logo for the reboot seems to be similar to the classic design from the old Regis Philbin version. Looks like we won't see anything close to the streamlined logo from the last year of the syndie version.
