Down on the showdown

Spun the big wheel and landed on Golden Road for the first time in a while.

The board for diehard fans of The Price is Right is running an interesting thread called "Your TPiR Confessions." This is a place for posters to fess up to what might be considered heretical notions about the show. There is even some slightly critical commentary about Bob Barker, which really is heresy around Golden Road.

But the main complaint from several posters centers on the Showcase Showdown. For some reason people are a little surly about the big spin.

Maybe this reflects an in-group dynamic among superfans of anything, including game shows. Superfans may tend to turn up their noses at what's supposed to be a crowning feature of their specialty. Instead, they focus more on the less gaudy aspects of the fan-object. This makes them look more knowledgeable and discerning and superfanny than those casual fans who only notice the flashier stuff.

Or maybe the Golden Roadsters just don't like the Showcase Showdown for some other obscure reason. Who knows?
