The year that was

2019 hasn't even closed out, and the Interwebs are running end-of-year pieces. This review from The Wrap offers the complete list of cable network viewer numbers for all of 2019. These stats don't quite cover the entire year, but they're not going to change much in the next few weeks.

TV Newser usually posts these lists, but maybe The Wrap wanted to get in on the numerical action. GSN averaged 400K/284K viewers prime time/total day for 2019. The network has dipped below these numbers over the past few weeks, but GSN has held close to its ranks in the cable universe. For the year GSN ranked 32nd and 25th in the windows. Certainly a respectable showing for a network that confines itself to what has always been a small niche of the TV market.

All cable networks face the cord-cutting challenge, but GSN has moved into syndication with America Says. John Michael Higgins and friends haven't sent the syndie world on fire, but they're not crashing horribly, either. The network has also made noises about online streaming, which its sort-of competitor Buzzr has embraced as a survival strategy.

A non-game show note. My guilty pleasure Investigation Discovery ranked 13th and 6th in prime time and total day. As many have noted, crime pays.
