Ellen's Game of Games returns to NBC with two hours of messy stunts at 8:00 PM January 7. That happens to be the exact time and date that ABC kicks off its Jeopardy battle of the titans. It's safe to say that James Holzhauer, Brad Rutter and Ken Jennings won't get splattered, dropped or slimed, like the poor denizens of Ellen's house of playful horrors.
You might call this the war of brain vs. bespatter. Will Alex draw more viewers with cerebral clues? Or will Ellen triumph with pratfalls and goop? Normally I'd bet on goop, but the Jeopardy stunt is a one-time delicacy. Not to mention that Ellen's Games of Game did not wow Nielsen with its latest ep on November 27.
Of course, if you want something completely different in our little genre, you can try Nick's reboot of Brit format Crystal Maze. It debuts January 24.
