BuzzerBlog has always had a crush on Brit shows, and this list is no exception. Your humble blogger confines himself to U.S. shows because I'm too lazy to cover every other nation on the planet. So I'll let the selections from the mother country and other countries alone. There are also two non-game shows, @midnight and very arguably Billy on the Street. I'm not a big fan of Billy Eichner, anyway, so I'm happy to give him a pass.
That leaves a mere eight shows from the BuzzerBlog list: Jeopardy, 100K Pyramid, Press Your Luck, Celebrity Name Game, Family Feud, Match Game, Double Dare, and Cash Cab. As it happens, I have little argument with these eight except for the dumb-luck PYL. So I'm down to seven, which leaves thirteen slots to fill on my own top twenty list for the 2010s.
GSN gets six picks: The Chase (BuzzerBlog includes the Brit version, natch), America Says, Idiotest, Baggage, Chain Reaction and Lingo. All are fine originals that - with the unfortunate and to me unfair exceptions of Mike Catherwood's Chain Reaction and Bill Engvall's Lingo - drew good-sized audiences and lasted for a while. John Michael Higgins and friends are still going in both cable and syndication.
There's no reason beyond simple orneriness to omit three obvious icons: Wheel of Fortune, The Price is Right and Let's Make a Deal. The sadly axed Millionaire also earns a slot. If you're counting, I'm now up to seventeen, so I get to rummage around for three personal faves: 500 Questions, Are You Smarter Than a 5th Grader, and Deal or No Deal (the CNBC version is just fine).
Put 'em in any order you want. And if I had to pick an honorable mention, it would be 25 Words or Less.
