I haven't seen any official announcement from ABC, but the renewal is no surprise. A few sites have predicted that all of ABC's six-pack of game show reboots would very likely get renewals. The numbers were just fine for cheap summer fare. In fact, I'm a little surprised that ABC, not awash in ratings winners, doesn't try Celebrity Family Feud in the winter months. Steve Harvey regularly draws over five million viewers in the low-rated summer, so what does the alphabet net (warning, Variety speak) have to lose?
In fact, even $100,000 Pyramid might brighten the Nielsen picture for ABC if they gave the show a chance outside of summertime. But what do I know? I'm not a hotshot network exec.
The PYL reboot is certainly watchable, though I've never been a big fan of the pure luck format. I do like how they jazzed up the show with a Deal or No Deal-ish bonus round. There's no need to fossilize old formats in amber and resist any and all changes.
