Clash of the titans

Now we know that the tweet from James Holzhauer was just a hint. He called out Brad Rutter and Ken Jennings, and ABC will give him his wish starting January 7.

The alphabet net (warning, Variety speak) will run Jeopardy eps with the three champs in prime time until one of Messrs. Holzhauer, Rutter and Jennings wins three matches. This could take a while, so the network has blocked out time from the seventh through the sixteenth in January. Alex Trebek will host, barring any health crises.

ABC has already made quite a commitment to our little genre, and this Jeopardy special continues their engagement with fun and games. Maybe they should have bought AT&T's share of GSN. (More on that in my next post.)

Simply from a fan's viewpoint, this is the ultimate Jeopardy treat. While viewers will disagree forever about the best contestants in the venerable quizzer's history, nobody can argue that these three guys aren't way up in the top tier. This should be gameplay at its finest. I can't wait.
