You've probably heard that Jeopardy's Alex Trebek has endured a setback in his fight with pancreatic cancer.

The longtime host went to the great white north to donate a lot of money to the University of Ottawa. He also gave an interview to a TV outlet on his battle with the deadly disease. The interview is as depressing as can be, so I can't recommend it for light reading.

Alex admits that his treatments haven't been as effective as hoped, and he recounts the downer details of the side effects and the grim prognosis. He sounds philosophical about his prospects, even semi-joking that he's trying to hang on until he's a grandfather.

It's great that Alex has been able to keep his usual Jeopardy schedule. Nobody's going to talk about it in public, of course, but I have to think that the producers have contingency plans for the worst possibilities. Good luck to Mr. Trebek on his second round of treatment.
