Watching those old episodes of Tattletales with James Brown and his wife Dee Dee makes me sad, especially knowing that he brutally beat that woman for their entire marriage. Love the "new" episodes you're showing, by the way, but I just cringed every time she got an answer wrong because I couldn't help but wonder if it led to a beating at home from James.
Have to admit, I was never a particular fan of James Brown. So I was only vaguely (if at all) aware of such allegations against him. Turns out there's quite a long list of domestic violence accusations against the late singer, with fairly convincing evidence to back them up. This story in Billboard outlines the charges about Brown and his then-wife Dee Dee, who appeared with him on those episodes of Tattletales.
Our little genre isn't designed to deal with the uglier side of life. I don't know if these particular eps of Tattletales led directly to any domestic violence, but it's a disquieting thought that they might have. Life, even on game shows, is not all fun and games (a grim understatement, I know).
