I already used this subject for a faux tweet, but I couldn't resist the temptation to write a full post. For years now, a writer named Mark Shaw has peddled books about the "mysterious" death of What's My Line's Dorothy Kilgallen. Exactly what the mystery is, I'm not sure.
Sorry to speak ill of the dead, but Ms. Kilgallen - the "Ms." is a silly anachronism for someone who died in 1965, but what to do? - was known to have problems with drinking and drugs. She had already spent some time in a hospital in 1963 for these issues. Her autopsy showed that she died from a lethal blend of sedatives and alcohol.
But the theorists insist that someone - the Mafia, the CIA, a reporter named Mark Pataky, God knows who else - murdered Dorothy Kilgallen. She supposedly had sooper secret info about the JFK assassination or the Sam Sheppard trial or something. Nobody's ever found any of this bombshell material, of course. But as so often happens, the lack of evidence only feeds the theories.
Now Mark Shaw wants to exhume Dorothy Kilgallen's body for DNA evidence which will somehow reveal something or other. He may get his wish if her children or Pataky don't object. The truth is out there...or down there.
