Seasons

It's obvious that successful game shows tend to last forever. The show in the screenshot got started in 1956, and the current CBS incarnation winked into existence in 1972. The Price is Right will debut its 47th CBS season on September 23. A list of TV debuts over the next several weeks brought home to me just how unusual such longevity is in the wonderful world of television. The September 23 premieres on the list...

The Good Doctor (ABC, Season 3)
The Neighborhood (CBS, Season 2)
Bob ♥ Abishola (CBS, new comedy series)
All Rise (CBS, new drama series)
Bull (CBS, Season 3)
The Voice (NBC, Season 17)
Bluff City Law (NBC, new drama series)
9-1-1 (Fox, Season 3)
Prodigal Son (Fox, new drama series)
The Price Is Right (CBS, Season 47)
Let’s Make a Deal (CBS, Season 11)
Someone You Thought You Knew (Investigation Discovery, new true-crime docuseries)

It's an odd mathematical fact that TPiR's season total is greater than the sum of all the other season totals on the list. And even these numbers are misleading. The Price is Right ran many seasons before the current version, as did Let's Make a Deal. These two game shows make everything else on the list - even the relatively long-lived The Voice, which "only" dates back to 2011- look like TV whippersnappers.

Sitcoms and dramas come and go, but some game shows endure forever. People like to play games on TV.
