Pat Sajak just got a plaque for hosting longer than anybody else on a single game show. And tonight syndie Wheel marked its 7,000th episode. Toss in the other versions of the show and you're talking, I dunno, something close to nine thousand?
Long story short, the show's been around forever. That version of hangman with the big colorful round thing has lasted through more than four decades and eight U.S. presidents. It's not slowing down any time soon. With an average audience of around ten million, Wheel will be with us for the foreseeable and nor so foreseeable future.
I'd like to report that tonight's episode was something special. But it was sadly rather run-of-the-mill. Contestant Melanie Hawley missed the bonus round puzzle, and her total of $26,950 was nice but not huge. But that's the way game shows happen, even after 7,000 eps.
