As I wrote a while back, James administered one of the worst beatings Mark Labbett ever suffered on the show, a 26-9 wipeout that was never even close. GSN couldn't resist building a half-hour special around that memorable episode, especially because they didn't have to hand out the cash to James twice.
Ken Jennings, a fellow you might also remember from Jeopardy, popped in now and then to offer his take on James' romp through GSN's prize budget. Ken couldn't help noting that he knew the answers to a couple questions that James somehow didn't nail. Even trivia masters are subject to a twinge of jealousy now and then.
I commented that GSN should have tried this special in prime time. Seems like a waste in the afternoon. But maybe they've got focus group data or some such nonsense.
GSN also took the occasion to plug their upcoming Best Ever Trivia Show, where Ken Jennings will be one of the resident experts. Nothing wrong with pushing their coming attractions, after all. The new show looks like a team version of The Chase, so at least they're knocking off something good.
