Show biz self-congratulation is a pet peeve of mine, as you all know.

But Guinness came up with something that is at least unusual. Longest Career as a Game Show Host of the Same Show. Well, you don't hear about that award every day. The fortunate recipient was Pat Sajak, who got the plaque from a Guinness "adjudicator" on Wheel of Fortune. You can tell from the tape that Pat almost allowed himself a wisecrack about the "adjudicator's" highfalutin' title, but he wisely passed on the chance.

Come to think about it, Guinness hands out so many goofy world records that they probably do need people to verify all the awards. You gotta have somebody check things like, say, longest career as a game show host on the same show. Pat's actual time on Wheel is this entry's title.

Do they count to the taping date or the broadcast date? Oh, I'll leave that to the adjudicator.
