The reboots of Press Your Luck and Card Sharks will debut on Wednesday June 12. To my surprise, another season of Match Game will follow the debutants. Alec Baldwin's ratings have hit the skids, and he hasn't exactly generated great publicity lately with his off-screen antics. But ABC needs something to fill summer nights, and Match Game remains a terrific format.
This is another reminder that game shows offer those famously low production costs. Even with Alec's salary, panelist fees, and a smidgen of prize money, Match Game hardly breaks ABC's bank. So the show can probably turn a profit despite very so-so news from the Nielsen Company.
Still haven't seen an announcement on the host of Press Your Luck. Maybe they're still looking, but they've got to start taping pretty soon.
