Turns out that Sajak has been the vice-chairman of the board of trustees at Hillsdale College for fifteen years. Which I didn't know, but now I do know that Pat will be the new chairman of the board because the current chairman, William Brodbeck, is retiring.
Game show hosts get honorary degrees from universities sometimes, but they usually don't end up chairing the board of trustees. Sajak never attended Hillsdale, but the college honchos really like the guy. Or at least they have lots of nice things to say about him.
All this seems kind of highfalutin' for our little genre. But Pat has the right attitude, not to mention that he agrees with me about show biz self-congratulation...
I'm in an industry where we're always patting each other on the backs for different awards we've won, but this one is at the top of my list.
That's the college spirit.
