Guess what. They were bashing GSN. Who could have imagined? The board actually has a thread on the GSN schedule, where they regularly trash the network for not running enough old stuff. But a couple of recent posts on the thread summed up oldies fanaticism in a way that's downright amusing.
A poster pointed out that GSN's schedule is now, gasp, half original shows. How dare the network try to add to the genre instead of just retreading dusty relics from the '70s and '80s! One guy grumpily pronounced: Shame on GSN. Another pontificated: And they can't even bother to dig out other originals besides the ones they actually currently air? Mess.
To get back to the real word, the "mess" is a top 30 cable network that probably draws thirty to fifty times the audience that Buzzr (beloved on Game Show Paradise) draws. And the language of the complaint is telling. Apparently a game show network should exist only to "dig out" buried corpses from the past.
I know, you have to expect such stuff from an oldies board. To give Game Show Paradise credit, a few posters seem happy that GSN is rebooting Catch 21. Maybe the show has accumulated enough dust to be somewhat acceptable. It debuted more than a decade ago, after all. Though one poster warns: Don't change a thing.
That's the older-is-better credo. Never change anything in game shows. Keep everything frozen the way it used to be.
