Team spirit

After all the rumpus about too much padding and dawdling in Jeopardy's team tournament, I settled in to watch the finals tonight.

As usual on this show, it came down to Ken vs. Brad. As in Jennings vs. Rutter, which sounds like a court case but is also a nice Jeopardy matchup. The two mavens put themselves into the Single Jeopardy round, which looked a little odd to me. Why not go for the bigger money in Double Jeopardy?

As it turned out, they also had solid players for the second and third rounds, so the two teams finished close and well ahead of Colby Burnett's unfortunate squad. But it's only the first day, and comebacks can always happen on the venerable quizzer.

The episode did waste a little time on silly and staged-looking "behind the scenes" stuff. But at least they got through a full game and left no clues unplayed. If I had to bet on the winner tomorrow, I'd pick Team Ken. We're talking about Ken Freaking Jennings, after all.
