Northern Ontario's Brad Jacobs will have to take the long road to get to the Canadian men's curling championship game. He fell 9-4 against Alberta's Kevin Koe (KOO-ee) in a playoff game between the top two seeds at the Brier. Jacobs will face wild-card Brendan Bottcher in Sunday's semifinal with the winner playing Koe in the evening.

The Toronto Raptors are heading back to the NBA playoffs. Toronto clinched its sixth straight post-season berth after a loss by the Charlotte Hornets against the Milwaukee Bucks. First-year head coach Nick Nurse has led the Raps to a 47-and-19 record so far this season. Toronto plays Sunday in Miami.

Kyrie Irving scored 30 points and Marcus Smart had 16 in the Boston Celtics' 120-107 victory over the short-handed Los Angeles Lakers. LeBron James put up his 80th career triple-double in a patchwork Lakers lineup missing three injured starters. James finished with 30 points, 12 assists and 10 rebounds as L-A lost its fifth straight.

Canada came up just short at the HSBC World Rugby Sevens. After an embarrasing first game loss to Samoa, the Canadians rallied for victories over Kenya and Fiji. But a victory by Fiji over Samoa ended Canada's playoff hopes. Connor Braid of Victoria scored 21 points off three tries and conversions in Canada's victory over Kenya.
