Adweek takes note of GSN

GSN, our little game show network, is a common whipping boy on the Interwebs for not running enough old stuff. In the real world, though, the network is starting to attract notice for its successful back-to-basics strategy. Adweek has posted a long laudatory piece on the cabler.

The article points out the obvious: GSN has gone super traditional. The ratings payoff has been significant. In total day and adults 25-54, the network's ratings are up between high-single and double digits year over year. In a cord-cutting era any cable network will take that kind of growth.

Adweek singles out Common Knowledge and America Says for particular praise, which is no surprise considering the good news Nielsen has sent to both shows. The article also says that Caroline & Friends has been renewed, which is news to me and pretty hard to believe. The show has been exiled to a few weekend slots, after all. We'll see.

There's also news about shows in development, all of which sound like the traditional stuff now in vogue at GSN. The next shows to see the air will be Best Ever Trivia Show (the title pretty much spells out the format) and a reboot of Catch 21.
