Top of the pops

Hadn't looked at the Sitcoms Online game show board in a while. But today I happened across another list of top game shows.

This ranking was a little strange. First, it was a top 35 list. Not sure how the poster came up with 35 as the number. He had previously posted a top 100 list for TV shows of all kinds. At least 100 is a nice round number. It's also a perfect square, for you numerology fans out there.

More importantly, his game show list leans heavily toward the present. My quick count shows that about half the shows originated after 2000. I'm not used to this tendency in top game show lists, especially on an oldies board like Sitcoms Online. Oddly, the poster's top 100 list of all TV shows tilts much more heavily toward the past.

Some of the more recent game shows made my own top 50 list a while ago. Lingo, Cash Cab, The Chase, 500 Questions. There's one show that I couldn't list because it debuted so recently: America Says. I would definitely find a place for John Michael Higgins and friends if I redid my top 50. The show is a genuine improvement on the sometimes dawdling Family Feud format.

Some things never change, though. The poster lists Pyramid as number one. This show hardly ever strays from the top 5 on anybody's list (not that it should).
