Deadline Hollywood has posted a story about the switch, which will become official with the debut of Joker's third season on January 23. Funny thing, the show will then get a rerun on TBS the following night. Go figure.
As the somewhat nonplussed Deadline writer comments, Joker seems like a better fit with the comedy-centric TBS. She speculates that AT&T's recent acquisition of Time Warner, including the Turner networks, may have something to do with the flip-flop.
Turner itself says that the switch will "help pair [Joker] with TNT's sports audience this time of year, attracted by the network's NBA coverage." This really seems odd to me. As I wrote a few days ago, game shows and sports usually appeal to diametrically opposed demos: old and female for game shows, young and male for sports.
But I'm not a hotshot TV exec with access to all sorts of fancy-dancy audience metrics. So what do I know?
