It's become glaringly obvious that America Says is GSN's biggest original hit in a long, long time. So it's a little strange that the network is paring back the show on next week's schedule. They're cutting one of John Michael Higgins' afternoon runs to make way for the debut of Joey Fatone's Common Knowledge at 5:30 PM weekdays.
Maybe execs are worried about over-exposure, otherwise known as Steve Harvey syndrome (or Gene Rayburn syndrome on Buzzr). But America Says has done nothing but hit new highs as the show has taken more time slots. GSN's viewership hardly seems tired of the lively Family Feud knockoff.
When GSN tossed a bouquet at The Price is Right with a softball documentary in the Cover Story series last year, I figured that Drew's reruns were coming to our little game show network. I still have fantasies of a hour each for America Says, TPiR and Harvey Feud in prime time. That lineup might be the biggest Nielsen winner GSN has ever rolled out in the peak viewing hours.
Will it happen? Well, Mr. Steve still has almost all of GSN prime time to himself. So the network doesn't look to be in any great hurry to mess with success too much.
