Let's pay tribute to last year's trivia apps who sizzled.....yet fizzled and died in a scrap heap next to recycled phones at a Best Buy somewhere. Arena, Beat the Q, CashBox, Cash Show, FNGenius, Genius, Halftime Live, JumpTV, Quizbiz, StephIQ, Trivia Streak, What's in the Box?, WTF, YAS Trivia
I had never heard of many of these live app game shows, but I'll take the blog's word for them. HQ spawned a zillion imitators, so you had to figure that the mortality rate among the knockoffs would be pretty high.
In fact, HQ itself doesn't look to be in great health. The show has declined markedly in popularity, and the sad death of one of its co-founders has cast a pall over the future. But Scott Rogowsky still plugs along with the daily outings.
Sooner or later somebody was going to try a game show on mobile devices instead of TV. HQ grabbed the first mover advantage and a rabble of imitators followed. Things seem to be cooling down and shaking out now.
