Not just nearly a half-million

When I was bashing Game Show Forum a couple posts ago - it's so much fun! - I mentioned that America Says has pulled audiences of nearly a half-million. Well, I can drop the "nearly." On December 26 the lively Family Feud knockoff broke the barrier with 502K total viewers.

Even more impressively, the show drew a 0.10 18-49 rating. That's a terrific number for the ancient-skewing GSN. Ever wonder why you see all those ads for Medicare supplements and diabetes meds on our little game show network? It's because most of GSN's viewers are as old as me...and that's old.

GSN has been plugging the living Hades out of the show as the good numbers roll in (see screenshot). For quite a while now, I'm been predicting a full hour in prime time for John Michael Higgins and friends. It hasn't happened yet, though the show is getting a hour and a half in the afternoon as I type. How long can it be before the oldies boards start complaining about the America Says overload?

One caveat: Christmas week cable ratings are a little suspect because the broadcast networks don't trot out their best product during the lightly watched period. We'll see how America Says holds up against tougher competition in January. But the latest numbers are strongly encouraging.
