It looks like Caroline & Friends has lost its weekday slot, and the show probably stands no chance of renewal. That's not much of a surprise. Caroline Rhea and her buddies occasionally drew some good numbers, but they got nothing like the ratings of homegrown hit America Says. Caroline will still get a few throwaway slots on weekends, at least for the time being.
C&F was a harmless video show with a tiny bit of gameplay tossed in. The oldies boards hated it, of course, because the oldies boards hate GSN in general. But the show hardly deserved the animus. C&F was run-of-the-mill cute, but it offered nothing that a search for cute videos on YouTube couldn't yield.
The well-worn reruns of Dylan Lane's Chain Reaction will take over Caroline's slot, possibly as a placeholder. Before the Joey Fatone quizzer Common Knowledge debuts on January 14, America Says will get an hour-and-a-half block on weekdays. GSN continues to use its entertaining knockoff of Family Feud to reduce its dependence on, er, the knocked-off Family Feud. I wouldn't be surprised to see John Michael Higgins and his dueling teams get a full hour in prime time sooner or later. GSN is cutting back on Steve Harvey and his dueling teams as much as possible.
