Chris Jones on Sunday |
Here's the transcript:
WHY THE RELEASE?
CJ: Over the break, we're always constantly evaluating our roster, our team, the way we do things, processes, coaching and things that we do in practice. Upon that evaluation we made the decision that we were going to go in a different direction from Duron. I went back and forth in my mind and yesterday at halftime of the (Montreal-Ottawa) game, I decided to go ahead and call him and alert him that that was the direction we were going.
WHAT WAS THE REASON?
CJ: I'm not going into specifics or anything like that. We're not going to put a guy on trial, or anything like that. We released a very good player who I think will land on his feet. We decided to go in a different direction for our football team.
WAS IT DIFFICULT?
CJ: Pro football is business. It didn't seem to surprise him when I had the conversation with him yesterday. That's about all I'd like to say.
WAS THERE AN INCIDENT?
CJ: No. You know what? It wasn't any one particular deal. It was time for us to go in a different direction.
DOES THIS HAVE ANYTHING TO DO WITH TERRELL OWENS?
CJ: It had nothing to do with it. We're not here to talk about Terrell. That's a discussion for another time. Let's give this it's dieu, and move on for another time okay?
WERE YOU MEETING WITH DURON DAILY?
CJ: This year we did not have daily meetings. We did that last year and it worked good. But guys get older, they mature, and stand on their own two feet. I wanted to treat Duron as a mature football player. The decision we made this year was to not meet everyday. We had meetings periodically but it wasn't on an everyday basis.
