The plug is a game show spoof where some poor schlub is trying to remember his password. Face recognition comes to his rescue in the nick of time, as the ad reveals that the game show was just a dystopian fantasy.
The linked story calls the ad "humorous." Apple usually gets good media. My reaction is closer to an irreverent comment on the site: Why does Apple make such crappy ads?
Okay, maybe the blurb isn't really all that bad. It's certainly not the worst game show spoof I've seen. Saturday Night Live has trotted out some real clunkers over the years. (To be fair, the show has offered some decent parodies as well.)
It wasn't exactly a game show parody, but one of the best twists on our little genre was the salad bowl mix-up of the old Boden GSN originals on April Fools Day 2003. The hosts all traded jobs, ending with an all-host episode of Lingo. Mark Walberg proved that he could probably beat anybody at the game single-handed.
