And I saw the second week of Match Game. I had long forgotten that this week - for the first and only time - mixed up the usual male-female seating arrangements for the celebs. As an extremely weird result, Richard Dawson wound up in Brett Somers' chair. (Though Brett had yet to appear on the show.)
It was a jarring scene for this longtime Match Game fan. The show also featured some of the duller straight questions that would soon give way to the classic gigglers and double entendres. YouTube preserves several of the week's episodes, if you want to see what the show looked like on its shakedown cruise. Soon the classic format would come together for Match Game's raucous nine-year run.
I've said before that it's always interesting to watch the first few episodes of a long-running game show, just to see what changed over the years. It's even more interesting for the greatest game show of them all.
