A beard, not just a mustache

Over the years Alex Trebek's facial hair has been the subject of many comments and more giggles. The now-you-see-it-now-you-don't mustache has entered into the lore of our little genre.

We've got even more to talk about now. Alex turned up with a full beard at a Junior ROTC academic bowl. He was part of the Jeopardy team interviewing contestants for a possible shot at the quizzer's next teen tournament.

I shouldn't say this, but the beard adds maybe ten years to Alex's already impressive age. On the other hand, it gives him sort of a nineteenth century presidential look. You can imagine him on a coin from the Denver mint.

I doubt the beard will endure to the next bunch of Jeopardy tapings. But you never know. They could make a big deal out of it, like they did with the (fleeting) return of his mustache not long ago.
