The latest is this pile of silliness about Genius Junior. After all the heavy breathing and pompous vocabulary, I think the writer likes the show. It's not easy to tell, though. The piece rates 43.2 on the Flesch test, which is godawful. That's a little less readable than most insurance policies.
Best as I can tell, the writer likes the show because the kids seem sane. I agree that it's better not to have insane contestants on a game show. Other than that, I don't know that the article says much of anything, but it does take a while to say it. By no coincidence the piece appears in the New Yorker, a finalist for the Pulitzer in the Most Self-important Publication category.
Meanwhile, Genius Junior runs its second episode on Sunday. More "beet greens for the soul," as a windy New Yorker writer might say.
