Mercedes-AMG GT R Shows 1000 HP G63 What True Speed Looks Like

If you drive a 1000 hp Mercedes-AMG G63, you could be forgiven for thinking you own the road. However, on an open stretch of Autobahn, such a beast is no match for a stock Mercedes-AMG GT R, even if the latter has a 400 hp deficit.

AutoTopNL were testing out a 1000 hp G63 when they discovered that, despite its huge power figure, the SUV’s top speed is no greater than a stock example because of the pesky limiter. Consequently, it can’t be pushed beyond 162 mph (260 km/h).

By comparison, a stock AMG GT R can sprint to 212 mph (341 km/h) if given enough room, leaving the G63 for dead.

As impressive as the AMG GT R is, the German brand isn’t done with its flagship sports car. A host of performance-focused versions are around a corner, the most insane of which shall revive the Black Series label. If history has taught us anything, the AMG GT R Black Series will receive a healthy dose of additional power and undergo comprehensive aerodynamic changes to make it an absolute animal.
