Howie says deal

If Byron Allen can buy the Weather Channel, then Howie Mandel can buy a comedy festival.

Howie and friends have bought the Just For Laughs operation in Montreal. The group puts on the annual comedy festival in the city, along with other events around the world. Howie has also been buying residential real estate, as I noted in a faux tweet a few weeks ago. The guy is building a small empire, just in time for the return of Deal or No Deal this fall to CNBC.

I assume Howie is getting good deals on all these transactions. He does have to deal with real bankers in the wheeling and dealing, but interest rates are still pretty low. If you're going to build an empire, this seems to be a pretty good time for it.

Howie made the usual noises for the press release. I have always been a big fan of Montreal and the Just for Laughs festival. I have performed at JFL many times over the last 10 years, and I have nothing but love for this event. I consider it to be a cultural treasure not only for the Montreal and Quebec communities, but also for Canada. Well, now he owns the thing.
