The oldies board revisits ancient ruins of the genre and refashions them into different outcomes or formats. Think of it as game show time travel, plus punching a hole in the space-time continuum. (I sound like Carl Sagan today.) One poster imagined Dan Avila actually winning the $2.2 million top prize on Greed.
If you're a regular reader of this blog, you probably know Dan's story. He risked it all to go for the biggest money on Greed, only to fail on an impossible question about, of all things, smells. It's almost as impossible to imagine him nailing the question, because his place in the genre's history as the saddest loser is so secure. But we are messing with the space-time continuum here.
Dan's agony is well recorded on YouTube, though the video quality is poor (see screenshot). He gets a nice article in U.S. Game Shows Wiki, which tells about his more successful tries on Millionaire and Jeopardy. At least the genre wasn't always cruel to him.
