Everybody's a critic

Not many game show hosts have doubled as pop music critics.

I can't remember Gene Rayburn penning any reviews in Rolling Stone. In fact, from Rayburn's occasional references to pop music on Match Game, I'm not sure that he had ever heard of the Beatles. Okay, slight exaggeration. But Gene definitely wasn't up to the minute on the latest and greatest sounds.

The times they are a-changing, as somebody sang (long ago and nasally). Nowadays, HQ host Scott Rogowsky can't wait to give us his verdicts on pop music at length and in detail. Upfront confession: I have no clue on almost any of the bands and singers he's talking about. He does jog my memory a little with a Bob Weir reference - I'm not a Deadhead but at least I've heard of the band - but that's about all I can connect with.

Scott dumps on a rapper named Smokepurpp but otherwise he seems like a pretty easy mark. Not the most demanding critic, you might say. Maybe he doesn't want to get any potential HQ-ties mad at him.
