PATS HOST BLADES WEDNESDAY NIGHT

The Regina Pats (24-20-5-0) are back in action on Wednesday night at home to the Saskatoon Blades (23-22-2-1). Puck drop is at 7:00 p.m. at the Brandt Centre (Access 7, 620 CKRM).

The Pats were in Saskatoon on Saturday and dropped a 4-3 decision in overtime. The Blades hosted Moose Jaw in their last game on Sunday, losing 5-3 to the Warriors. Tonight is the sixth of eight meetings between the two clubs in 2017-18, The Pats hold a 1-2-2-0 record in the season series.

The Lead Up: Pats fall 4-3 in OT in Saskatoon Saturday
The Regina Pats dropped a 4-3 overtime decision to the Saskatoon Blades on Saturday night. The Blades scored the game’s first two goals in the opening period, but Jesse Gabrielle got one back late in the frame, his fifth of the year and it was 2-1. In the second, Cameron Hebig tied it up with his 32nd and then Sam Steel gave the Pats their first lead with his 17th and it was 3-2 heading to the third. In the final frame, Evan Fiala tied it up for Saskatoon which eventually forced overtime in a 3-3 tie. In the extra frame, Eric Florchuk tipped home the winner and gave the Blades the extra point in a 4-3 final. The Pats outshot Saskatoon 50-30 in the defeat, the powerplay was oh for four and the penalty kill was one for one. Sam Steel and Cameron Hebig led the offence with a goal and an assist, Max Paddock made 26 saves.

Head to Head 
Tonight is the sixth of eight meetings between the Pats and Blades, Regina is 1-2-2-0 in the season series. Matt Bradley leads the way with four goals and four assists against Saskatoon. Sam Steel and Jake Leschyshyn have put up five points and Emil Oksansen has four. Braylon Shmyr has four goals and 12 points against Regina, Kirby Dach has five points while Josh Paterson, Bradley Goethals and Evan Fiala have four points. Regina enters Wednesday four points up on Saskatoon for the first wildcard spot in the Eastern Conference, the Blades hold one game in hand.

Oksanen makes Central Scouting Midterm Rankings
Pats forward Emil Oksanen was among the 43 WHL players listed in the NHL Central Scouting Service midterm rankings for the 2018 NHL Entry Draft. Oksanen was a second round Import Draft pick in 2017 and is the 193rd ranked player in North America. The product of Kirkkonummi, Finland has 12 goals and 31 points in 36 games this year.

Former Team Success
Pats forward Cameron Hebig and defenceman Libor Hajek took on their former team in the Saskatoon Blades for the first time on Saturday night. Hebig picked up a goal and an assist in the contest while Hajek had an assist. Hebig, in five games with the Pats has scored two goals and has four assists for six points. Hajek has played in four games and has two assists.
