Covering stories

A while back I noted that on January 14 GSN will run a special about Michael Larson's reign of terror (for CBS execs) on Press Your Luck. Afterwards the network will rerun the two Larson PYL eps.

Based on recent GSN promos for the show, it looks like this will be the start of a series of documentaries under the general title Cover Story. I have no idea what other episodes may be coming up in the series, because I don't have any GSN schedules beyond the January 8-14 week. But I can tell you that the first ep of Cover Story has an episode number of 1001. Which means there might be a 1002 one of these days. And maybe even a 1003 and a 1004...

It's not hard to pick a few mysteries and scandals (thanks, E!) that GSN could include in the series. The rigging rumpuses, Bob Barker's legal adventures, the Chuck and Merv spat at Wheel of Fortune, Richard Dawson's sourpuss exit from Match Game, ABC's glory and decline with Millionaire, Fox's Our Little Genius fiasco, etc. The question is how firmly GSN wants to step on some people's toes in the business.

The genre has seen its share of questionable and attention-grabbing antics. We'll see what (if anything) GSN does with them.
